Lil Sis went to Canberra last week. Her faith in the democratic process was greatly reaffirmed by a visit to Parliament.
“They just insulted each other the whole time and one person was even asleep,” she told me. “And all John Howard did was twirl on his chair and scratch his head.”
“It’s like a monkey-house in a zoo,” I heard Mum mutter. As Lil Sis talked some more she revealed that the only one actually trying to do something useful was the Minister for Education, but her efforts were more or less negated by the posturing of everyone else.
Finally, Lil Sis told us how she spotted Midnight Oil band-member-turned-politician Peter Garrett.
“I could tell him by the top of his head,” she explained simply.
(Note: for those unaware of the fact, John Howard is Australia’s prime minister and Canberra is our nation’s capital.)

Went to the Brisbane Ekka (aka Royal Show, aka Exhibition) last week. Went on all the usual rides and bought all the usual showbags, plus some for Lil Sis, who was on a school trip in Canberra. Found a phone, banged on the Lost Property Office’s window while the staff ignored me for fifteen minutes, until I gave up and gave it to a copper at the Lost Children office.

That’s me screaming wildly as I went down the Euro slide. Fun!

These are some poor, unfortunate swans that got laughed at everywhere they went.

Can’t you just feel their pain? Cute though.

RaJ (yes, RaJ again) mentioned on his blog that he’d completed a nerd quiz. Of course, I had to have a go. It’s sad really.

Tried to post a highly amusing image, but my connection apparently won’t let me do that while I’m downloading. *sigh* *curses dialup*
I’ve done a new blog header, which I will try and upload when I’ve finished this post. Wish me luck. *crosses fingers*
Bought some Pernod today. Love that stuff. Viewed the newest Potter Puppet Pals videos. Laughed hysterically. Went shopping for a new car. Listened to my mp3 player. It’s been a quiet week.

I was reading RaJ’s blog, because I haven’t read it for a while, and came across this post about a cord-free, Bluetooth-enabled earpiece for one’s phone that sits on one’s ear.

(RaJ’s earphone, above)
My immediate thought: Holy cow! He’s been taken over by the Cybermen!

(Pre-Cybermen earphones. Is it just me or is there a distinct resemblance?)
You may all smack me for being a geek now.

Wow… look how long it’s been since I last updated! 8O
Sorry. Life has been hectic, and I keep getting sick. I was actually sick on my birthday. I’m nineteen now, but I don’t feel it, because I mostly slept through my birthday, and the parts I didn’t I had a fever and was convinced I was a wizard. (Turns out there was a downside to reading Harry Potter only a day or so before I got sick.) I got an mp3 player though, which I adore, as well as other neat stuff.
The thing I’m most excited about at the moment is the return of Doctor Who to television. (God, I’m such a nerd.) I am very much enjoying season three. I watched an episode last night, with my sister and Dad who have slowly been sucked into watching it along with me every week.
Dad noted that it was odd that no one in the episode wondered why the Doctor was able to instantly identify what the machine did just by watching it, despite it being an experiment in an obscure area of science.
“It’s like the TARDIS,” I pointed out. “In one episode in the first series someone asks the Doctor, won’t anyone notice the TARDIS in the middle of the street? The Doctor goes, ‘listen, someone parks a mysterious blue box in the middle of the street. What do you do? Walk right past it.’ ” I grew thoughtful. “You know, it often astonishes me how people fail to notice the most amazing things, just because they’re too busy going about their life.” I shook my head. “People are always walking past the TARDISes of life.”
My Dad got a most peculiar look on his face.
“That is not an expression,” he said slowly, “that I have ever heard before, nor one that I believe I will ever hear again.”
“You know what I mean,” I chided.
“Yes,” he agreed, “I’m scared that I do.”
